Had new rotors, bearings and brake pads done at Calvert's almost a year ago. Had been having some issues with my truck shaking when I got up to 55MPH or more. I figured I just needed an alignment. When I got my truck inspected, they informed me that the driver's side brake caliper hadn't been adjusted properly, and the brake pad has been in constant contact with the rotor, so the pad is almost completely worn down, and the rotor has significant damage. The bearings also were not properly tightened, and have worn significantly and also need replaced. The mechanic that did my inspection at the other garage took me out and showed me all the issues. He also informed me that they fix a lot of Calvert's "repairs". Bottom line; don't pay Calvert's to do anything, because you'll end up paying for it twice.
Strike #2: My fuel pump went out- trusted Calverts to do the work. More on this below.
I'm writing this review from inside one of the massive potholes in their parking lot. Take a look for yourself. If they can't take care of their business or parking lot should you trust them to fix your car?
I just took my truck into their shop yesterday. They did a great job with the repairs as well as go over a few other things needing attention. I have never been to a better shop where they honor their quote, speak to you about your repairs & do it in a timely manner. You guys have me as a returning customer for sure.
Strike #5: After replacing the pump myself and putting my truck back together I call Calverts to let them know what I found... I was clear that I understood it was outside any kind of warranty but just wanted it known what I found... Harry handled my call, flexed his customer service game and convinced a reluctant me to go ahead and bring my truck in the next day so they could get it on a lift and 'make it right'. Take it in the next day and Paul, who identified himself as Harry's boss and also as 'corporate' starts giving me the run around about how they aren't responsible, everything wrong *I* did and if I wanted it fixed then i'd have to pay. 7 times I had to tell this guy to get my truck back on the ground. 7 times. Admittedly, pretty pissed by the last couple times and at one point this guy took a couple steps towards me like he thought he was going to do something...
...take your business here and *that* is what you're supporting and it should be obvious by the condition of their building and parking lot that they don't get a whole lot of repeat business. It's not about money- think about what would have happened if I had lost that gas tank at highway speed?
Strike #4: A year down the road my fuel gauge stops working- meh, whatever- i got good at using the trip odometer as a fuel gauge. Another year down the road my truck starts dripping fuel. Lift the bed myself and discover the fuel is leaking from one of the fuel pump ports, while investigating the fuel port just snaps right off leaving half the port lodged inside the fuel line... the fuel lines that are contoured to lay flat and parallel are closer to being braided... what is worse though is the discovery that one of the two straps holding the tank to the frame isn't even attached on the saddle end- not just loose but is floating below the bed, above the exhaust and above the drive shaft- not something that happens if it 'just pops out'. It's this strap that is the reason the fuel pump port broke- every bump this strap would lift up and slap against the bottom of the port assembly.
Strike #1: My truck needed a new catalytic converter- trusted Calverts to do the work and it is honestly some of the worst welding that I have ever seen.
Strike #3: My truck needed a state inspection, Calvert's said it needed a new idler arm. Thought that was odd since it had the idler arm replaced at the last inspection a year before. They said their supplier only stocked the direct replacement so I ordered the Moog upgraded arm and took it back in to have the work done. When the shop manager told me they don't do that he was *excessively* rude, when I pointed out the legal boilerplate on the back of their paperwork says they do for an added percentage he became downright prickish and hostile. So I took my business elsewhere.
Took our car to Calvert's on Wednesday because we found a coupon for new brakes with service for $60. After James looked over the car for a moment, he determined that the coupon did not apply to the cars needs and that it would actually cost $587 for new brakes. The car is a 2001 Chevy. But we need brakes, so he asked for $100 to order the part. After leaving (near closing time) and discussing it, we decided not to go forward with the repairs. Called back the next morning when they opened to notify them that we would not be using them for repairs and was notified that we could not get our $100 back. The part had not been ordered and, even if it had, auto repair shops return parts ALL THE TIME. I called back again to ask James what exactly the $100 was for if the repairs were not going to be done AND we could not collect the part. He said that it was for ordering the part. Now I've never worked at an auto shop, but in other companies where frequent orders/shipments are being made, the company DOES NOT pay for individual shipping. I'm certain this is the case at Calvert's, but they're business practices are obviously crooked. After writing reviews to warn potential customers NOT TO DO BUSINESS HERE, I am going to file a complaint with Missouri Attorney General Josh Hawley and urge anyone who has suffered loss of hard earned money for no reason to Calvert's. Thieves should not be tolerated and handled by the proper authorities.
